its kind of funny, I did the same thing with Hal's program for years, about 18 months ago I started using his app and stepped up like you did...then actually read what you are supposed to do for each workout, set a PR's in both full and half marathon. I cant believe it took my so long to pay attention...the app helped.
Josh, thanks for sharing your story! For me, it was IM Waco 70.3 where I hit that wall like you did. I could barely finish the race but still managed to finish in 6:30:00. The disappointment in my performance and the anger at my body almost pushed me to stop racing IMs all together. When I decided to get back on the horse again, I decided to change my approach, getting a coach and investing in learning how to race better. The go slow to go fast is so true. At 51 I am running longer and faster than I did when I was 21 and enjoying it so much more. Glad to see you have found your love of it again. When you get that itch to stretch yourself again, I would suggest looking into triathlons. Thanks again for sharing and as a fellow runner/racer, I look forward to reading your next post. Happy Running!
Jeff, thank you so much! That is awesome to hear, especially given you’re running better now than decades ago! That is super cool. I often think about how much further I’d go compared to 26.2. I honestly don’t know the answer right now, but I’m guessing I will have a desire to push myself at some point!
Great reads so far Josh. I’ve struggled with the same issues and after a very tough year in ‘21 of injuries and work messing with my training schedule, I’d given up on doing 26.2. Finished Leprechaun Chase yesterday after some similar training to start this year and am finally reconsidering it. Best of luck on your chase - I’ll be following closely!
Good word! Proud of you for being vulnerable and then showing what change will do for you! Keep running!

Right?! It's very frustrating in hindsight that it took me so long to start running "correctly," but better late than never.

Thank you for reading! That is so cool to hear. It’s changed how I view running — hope it does the same for you!
